Birth Certificates
On January 1, 2021, a new vital records law and rules went into effect that changes the ordering requirements for birth and death certificates.
- For increased security of personal information, only individuals with specific relationships to the person on the record being requested can receive a certified copy.
- Identity and proof of relationship documentation will be required.
- Certificate fee increased to $25 per copy.

The Grant County Health District is only able to provide certified birth certificates for births occurring in Washington State from 1907 to present. You can submit applications and payment in person, online or by mail. The cost for a certified copy is $25. Acceptable forms of payments are cash, money order or credit card, a credit card can be used online or by phone. There is an additional fee to use a credit card. Fetal Death Certificates
Qualified applicants for a fetal death certificate are: Parent, Sibling, Grandparent, Parent’s Legal Representative, Authorized Representative, Funeral Director or Funeral Establishment listed on the record (up to 12 months from the date of death), or Government Agency or the Courts (only for official duties).

Death Certificates

Deaths occurring prior to October 2014 can be accessed online through the Washington Electronic Death Registration System. For a list of counties participating in electronic filing of death records go to: Washington’s Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). You can submit applications and payment either in person, online, or by phone. The cost for a certified copy is $25. Acceptable forms of payments are cash, money order or credit card, a credit card can be used online or by phone. There is an additional fee to use a credit card.
