Food Worker Cards
All “food workers”—Individuals who work with unpackaged food—must obtain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card (FWC) either online or in person from Grant County Health District or any other local health jurisdiction in Washington. The Food Worker Manual is available online in 17 languages.
A FWC is not a food license and does not permit you to sell food. It is simply a document that shows you have received food safety training that is approved by the State of Washington and is recognized by all counties in Washington. To get a card you will need to watch a video and take the test. You can do this online or in-person. After passing the test, you must pay $10 either online with a credit or debit card or to the Health District to obtain a Food Worker Card directly from the Health District. You will receive a card that is good for two years.
If you renew your card before it expires you can bring your old card and the card you received online into GCHD and we will issue you a three-year card. If your old card has expired, you will only be able to receive a two-year card. You may be eligible for a five-year card if you have completed an approved advanced training. Food Worker Card Class Options
Online: foodworkercard.wa.gov
If you choose to obtain your FWC online, use the link provided or type in the web address: www.foodworkercard.wa.gov. The cost is $10. Do not attempt to search for the online class via a search engine. There are many companies online that offer food safety training certificates and “cards” which are invalid in our state. Most of these sites will not refund money for purchasing unapproved cards.
Additional Locations to Access Online Food Worker Card Course and Test
